Cat Water Fountains

Ceramic and plastic water fountains that encourage cats to drink more with filtered running water.

Cats evolved in arid environments and have a low thirst drive; running water triggers drinking behavior that still water does not. A cat water fountain with a flow rate that produces visible movement encourages more water intake than a standing water bowl. Ceramic fountains are heavier and harder for cats to knock over than plastic, and ceramic does not develop the biofilm scratches that harbor bacteria as plastic ages. A carbon filter removes chlorine taste and odor from tap water; filters should be replaced every 2 to 4 weeks depending on household water quality and cat count. This section covers cat water fountains by material, filter type, tank capacity and motor noise level in decibels.
