Measuring Cups

Dry and liquid measuring cup sets in stainless steel and plastic for baking and cooking.

Measuring cups come in two distinct types that are not interchangeable for accurate measurement. Dry measuring cups have a flat rim that allows the contents to be leveled with a straight edge; they are used for flour, sugar, oats and other solid ingredients. Liquid measuring cups have a spout and marked increments on the side; they are designed to be read at eye level when filled with liquid, where the slight curvature of water (the meniscus) can be seen accurately. Using a dry cup to measure liquid introduces error because the cup must be overfilled to reach the marking. Stainless steel dry measuring cups are more accurate than plastic because they do not flex when leveled. This section covers measuring cups by type (dry versus liquid), material, and the capacity range included in each set.
