Triple Scale Deluxe Homebrew Hydrometer
Brand: Generic homebrew supply
Best for
Home brewers who want a standard glass hydrometer for measuring original gravity before fermentation and final gravity after fermentation to calculate actual alcohol content, where the triple scale design shows specific gravity (1.000 to 1.170), potential alcohol percentage (0 to 20 percent) and Brix (0 to 40 degrees) on a single scale.

Measuring gravity during active fermentation without removing a sample from the fermenter is needed. A glass hydrometer requires pulling a sample of beer into a separate test jar, which opens the fermenter and pulls approximately 100 to 150ml of beer from the batch. A refractometer (Brix optical) requires only 1 to 2 drops and can be used on boiling wort before fermentation. After fermentation begins, alcohol in the beer affects refractometer readings and requires a correction calculation; a hydrometer remains accurate throughout fermentation without correction.
Triple Scale Hydrometer uses a sealed glass float containing a paper scale printed with three measurement columns. The hydrometer is placed in a sample of wort or beer in the test jar, and the reading is taken at the meniscus level (where the liquid surface meets the hydrometer scale). The included test jar holds approximately 200ml. Temperature correction: the hydrometer is calibrated at 60F; readings at other temperatures require a correction factor (add approximately 0.001 to specific gravity for every 10F above 60F).
Triple scale hydrometers are a generic homebrewing supply item produced by multiple manufacturers and sold under homebrew brand names.
At $8, the triple scale hydrometer is the most affordable gravity measurement tool in this guide.
