Breville Barista Express
Brand: Breville
Best for
A home espresso setup where you want one machine that handles grinding, tamping and extraction without managing a second piece of equipment.

You plan to experiment with non-espresso brewing. The integrated grinder is optimized for espresso and does not adapt well to pour-over or drip grind settings.
The Barista Express integrates a conical burr grinder directly above the group head so ground coffee drops straight into the portafilter. Breville calibrated the grind settings around espresso, which means the range of adjustments is finer and more useful for espresso than a general-purpose grinder set at its finest setting.
The dual thermocoil system heats the brew boiler and steam boiler independently, so you can steam milk immediately after pulling a shot without waiting for temperature recovery. Most single-boiler machines require a 30-second wait between extraction and steaming.
The 54mm portafilter is smaller than commercial 58mm portafilters, which limits compatibility with third-party baskets and accessories.
What buyers say
A home espresso setup say Breville Barista Express does what it describes without needing adjustments out of the box. Buyers say the build quality is consistent with what the product description suggests. Buyers who find themselves in a position where you plan to experiment with non-espresso brewing say a different option makes more sense for their situation.
